1986 - General Chemical Corporation (GCC) is formed as a spin-off of certain chemical businesses from the Allied-Signal merger
1986 - General Chemical Soda Ash Partners (GCSAP) partnership formed between General Chemical Corporation (a predecessor to the Company) and ACI
1992 - Tosoh purchased 24% interest in GCSAP from ACI for $82 million
1998 - Owings Illinois (OI) acquired ACI for $3.6 billion
The Company was formed when it's parent company, General Chemical Group (GCG) consummated a spin-off of GenTek Inc. to its shareholders. In connection with the spin-off, GCG transferred all operations (including its equity interest in GCSAP) to the Company
2003 - GCG was merged into the Company
March 2004 - The Company emerged from bankruptcy with two primary businesses: the production of soda ash through GCSAP and the production of calcium chloride through it's Canadian subsidiary (GCCL)
January 2005 - GCCL filed for CCAA protection, and calcium chloride operations were shut down
August 2005 - The Company acquires Tosoh's 24% interest in GCSAP for $62.5 million
November 2005 - GCCL is put into liquidation proceedings under Canadian bankruptcy law.
