A History of Growth
Founded by Herman Muehlstein, Muehlstein began as a New York trader of rubber raw materials. Over the next 35 years, Muehlstein grew to become the largest distributor in the industry.
After World War II, several new plastic materials began to be commercially produced on a large scale. Muehlstein established early relationships with plastic producers such as Foster Grant and Dow, pioneering the concept of an alternative marketing channel.
In the early 1960's, Herman Muehlstein retired and sold his shares to Muehlstein’s employees so they would have a stake in the company's future expansion.
The rapid growth of the plastics industry in the 1960's fueled the development of Muehlstein. Throughout the 1970's, Muehlstein expanded globally, opening offices in Canada, Germany, Great Britain and Singapore.
Muehlstein continues to expand its global presence, with affiliated sales offices throughout North and South America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
Our history of employee-ownership has fostered both an entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to our customers and suppliers. This "can do" attitude has been the foundation of our success.
