Accommodations

Real estate and the cost of accommodation are on the rise in the United States, particularly in the city areas. There is a wide range of rental accommodation from old buildings converted to apartments, to lane houses and modern sky rise apartments. Cost for rentals can vary from $200 a month to $5,000 a month depending on size and type of accommodation.

Living Costs

  • Bottle of Water: $1.00 - $2.00
  • 12 ounce bottle of beer: $2.00 - $6.00
  • Financial Times newspaper: $0.50 - $1.50
  • Meal with wine/beer: $50 - $100 per couple
  • Local food: About $15 per person will get you very good local fare. There are many different varieties of American food with many different prices.
  • Train: $6.00 starting price (increases with mileage)
  • Taxi: $2.75 staring price plus additional money per mile
  • Subway: $2.00 starting price
  • Movies: about $9.50
  • Starbucks: about $5.00 for Cappuccino

Transportation

Despite the size of the United States, it is relatively easy to get around.  Cars, trains, buses and air planes are the major forms of transportation in the US. Expect to be delayed when leaving around 8am or 5pm.
