Job description
The Principal Compensation is responsible for the Compensation Division and will have 6-8 reports (with growth potential). The position will have the opportunity to be on ground floor of rebuilding practice and be a part of defining what the practice looks like.

Responsibilities:
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
• Expand current client relationships by developing new business in practice area.
• Grow the firm business base by bringing in new clients.
• Promote visibility of the company and develop contacts through speaking engagements, publications and other participation in industry and professional associations.
• Demonstrate knowledge of the market and competitors.

PEOPLE DEVELOPMENT
• Interview, recruit and hire high quality staff.
• Mentor and train staff, continually focusing on developmental opportunities.
• Conduct meaningful performance appraisals of direct reports. Take appropriate action, when necessary.
• Lead a highly efficient staff with high chargeable time.
• Develop sufficient work and staff to profitably leverage the position of principal.

FINANCIAL
• Manage overall client relationships and client assignments representing a substantial block of business (revenue requirement is $1,500,000).
• Supervise preparation of schedules and budgets resulting in on-time, profitable projects.
• Exercise judgment and discretion over amounts to be billed and manage consulting relationships profitably (high collection rates) while retaining the client.
• Be highly billable and work appropriate overtime.

CONSULTING
• Provide creative, strategic, proactive, and technically correct advice to clients.
• Display strong written and oral communication skills including the ability to articulate complex concepts.
• Conduct client meetings to gather information, establish needs, clarify expectations, develop strategy and obtain feedback.
• Ensure quality services are provided to clients.

Who we are looking for
Ideal candidate should have significant consulting experience in any or all of the compensation related disciplines: Executive Compensation, Board of Directors Compensation, Broad-based Pay, and Sales Effectiveness. Industry expertise is also valued. Range of work should include design, implementation, and maintenance of programs. Candidates would need to be entrepreneurial with good client relationship skills. Business development skills, innovation, and ability to train staff of all levels are also important. Visibility via speeches, presentations, articles is a plus.

Requirements
• Masters degree ( PHD is a plus)
• at least 8 years of experience in a management consultancy role
• at least 8 years of experience with executive compensation
• experience within a consultancy firm is a must; only candidates with consultancy experience will be considered
• strong people and leadership skills, ability to motivate and build a team
• consulting mentality
