Job description
A Boston based value investment firm with over $18 billion AUM and 20+ years in the business has a unique opportunity for a senior tax specialist to sit within their Investment team of analysts and provide support from a tax perspective on public securities. This position provides direct tax support to the Public investment team to ensure continuity of all public investment tax related matters and will also be aligned with the nine person tax team that manages all aspects of tax reporting for the fund's multiple entities and partnerships. Experience working in a high paced environment, preferably on a trading floor is key. The person must have confidence in expressing their opinions and making creative suggestions to the MD's and Analysts in tax consequences related to investing.
Specific responsibilities of this position will include, but are not limited to:
Review and decipher critical tax data in corporate filings to aid investment decisions
Document specific tax return filing positions
Assist in setting tax policy
Analyze holdings to determine tax efficiency (i.e., owning vs. entering into a swap)
Look at pipeline and identify tax implications related to potential investments
Understand and communicate how proposed and actual changes to tax law may alter reported financial results, opportunities or positions in the investment portfolio
Dissect and translate complex tax issues to non-tax professionals
Who we are looking for
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
6 + years domestic and foreign corporate tax analysis experience with ability to apply experience from an investor’s perspective
JD or CPA required; MST or LLM a plus
Experience with the tax consequences of hedging and derivative transactions by investors
Extensive background researching complex security and derivative tax related issues
Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to build relationships with internal teams and external tax advisors
Ability to work independently while at the same time work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented structure
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment which requires multi-tasking and an understanding of the urgency of investment requests
Strong organizational and problem solving skills
Must be comfortable making tax treatment and risk recommendations under time pressure based on the information available at that moment
