Job Description

* Prepare financial statements and reports accurately and on time.
* Ensure the accounting practices comply with contractual and funding source obligations, applicable government and regulatory requirements and overall objectives of the company. * Coordinate the monthly and year-end general ledger closings to prepare internal financial statements and schedules. Implement a monthly closing checklist.
* Act as a liaison to external auditors and assist the Director of Finance with the annual audit.
* Ensure adequate preparation for funder audits, including audits from the City, State or Federal government. Also ensure that monthly receivables for City, State and Federal grants are properly recorded.
* Assist the Director of Finance with annual operating and capital budgets.
* Conducts studies and investigations of financial aspects of the Organization and prepares reports for the Director of Finance.
* Accurately maintain temporarily restricted and permanently restricted accounting records and subsidiary details.
* Prepare and post monthly depreciation entries. Keep records of fixed assets additions and maintain and update the depreciation schedules on an ongoing basis.
* Prepare and post semi-monthly payroll journal entries including salary allocation to various grants and departments and track benefits accrual.
* Prepare budgets, income and expenditure reports for potential funders as needed by the Development Department.
* Reconcile monthly the various bank and investment accounts, APS reports with general ledger and cash receipts with the bank statements.
* Ensuring that the monthly receivables for City, State and Federal grants have been properly recorded in the books.
* On a monthly basis, reconcile pledges and revenue with the Development Department.
* Maintain and update schedules for Prepaid Insurance and prepaid expenses.
* Make journal entries when money is withdrawn from bank accounts for Flexible Spending accounts (FSA) and Healthcare Reimbursement account (HRA). Maintain the deposits for FSA and HRA and semi-monthly book expenses for payments made to employees based on reports.
* Other duties as assigned

The Successful Applicant

  • Ability to effectively collaborate and interact with co-workers and outside constituencies in a manner that is professional, productive, and reflective of the companies' core values
  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance (transcript required).
  • Minimum three years' verifiable experience working with government funding agencies (developing budgets, preparing vouchers, maintaining productive working relationships)
  • Work experience/history that demonstrates growth and successful assumption of management responsibility.
  • Experience with Great Plains accounting software.
  • Comfort level working with an extremely diverse population.
    * Master's degree, preferable
    * CPA, desirable
