The company has several international production facilities and has a world-wide distribution network. In its market segment, our client is a world market leader.

The award-winning company headquartered in the region of North Rhine Westphalia, Germany is looking for an experienced, innovative and entrepreneurial thinking Chief Digital Officer ( m/f), who reports directly to the CEO and will establish a new central area. The company’s US location is based close to Chicago, IL.


Job Description

The Chief Digital Officer (CDO) enables a seamless connected experience where the customer meets the enterprise and gets served through a variety of channels – generating revenue through better retention, cross-sell and upsell and accomplishing the core mission of customer centricity. 

You will take full responsibility for the global digital transformation of the company through a cutting-edge digital strategy, which will be drawn from the corporate strategy.

You are the executive overseeing the overall digital customer experience across touch points, lifecycle functions and application platforms.

You will be in charge of the development, control and enforcement of cross-country digital transition projects, aiming to achieve the digitalization of the company on an international scale (i.e. by ensuring a synchronized digitization process of all of the company’s subsidiaries).

Your will foster coherence between all the key digital requirements and projects of the corporate strategy, aiming to create a maximum exploitation of synergies.

In close coordination with the IT department, you will evaluate and select new hardware and software technology to boost business effectiveness and to prevent external attacks.

You will develop a close and productive communication strategy between all the functional areas of the company and with the senior management.

Working closely with the HR department, you will supervise any management arrangements in your sector, and you will develop new digital training concepts for the company's employees. By doing that, you will be able to spread the understanding of the company's digitalization process among the staff and ease their familiarization process with the new implemented technology.

You will monitor the effectiveness of the digital transition progress relying on appropriate quantitative criteria.

You will design digital realignment proposals drawn from the observation of successful digital business models, products and services and/or based on specific market and customer requirements.

You will be in charge of detecting potentially disruptive business models and foresee competition; drawing from these observations you will develop innovative concepts and business ideas applying to the various markets the company operates in.

You will be in charge of the design and implementation of new digital interfaces and services to boost the relationship with customers and suppliers.

You will envision and implement readjustments to the company's internal organization according to the needs of the digitization process and the company's future digital functions.

You will work closely with other internal departments and business units.

You will be disciplinarily responsible for the team members in you sector, which is currently under construction.

The Successful Applicant

- University degree in i.e. Computer Science and Business Administration

- (Ideally) have at least five years of experience in a leadership position, with a disciplinary responsibility for a team.

- Have extensive background experience of internationally oriented medium-sized industrial enterprises, and in-depth knowledge of the subject of Industry 4.0 / IoT . Most importantly, you should be passionate about it!

- Have previous experience in the development and implementation of digitization strategies.

- (Ideally) be familiar with SAP ERP and SAP Hybris.

- Have previous experience in the business-driven and strategic use of social media, e-business / e-commerce, marketing, mobile applications, Big Data and digital technologies.

- Have experience in the strategic (re)-orientation of enterprise software architectures.

- Have experience in IT project management

- Show extensive knowledge in the implementation of management rearrangements aimed at complying with a company's new digital requirements

- Demonstrated ability to set strategy and adjust course as needed

- Show ability to develop new business models taking into account existing as well as new value chains

- Be able to present and introduce new ideas that may be in breach with older ways of thinking. You should be able to create dialogue between stakeholders that share a different knowledge and expertise and foster cooperation among them to achieve consensual solutions.

- Be a structured and organized person, with a quality and results-oriented approach. You should enjoy working with a "hands-on" mentality and engaging in the first person to successfully implement projects

- Be able to think "out of the box"

- Proven public speaking ability, both on stage and with press and analysts

- Have strong analytical skills and be able to conceptualize in a clear and inspirational way, all combined with a strong people-oriented management culture

- Be a strong communicative leader with a broad understanding of technology and the capacity to pass your expertise on to others

- Be entrepreneurial, show initiative as well as responsibility, and have excellent team building skills

- Be proficient in English; any German skills will be beneficial
