About Our Client
Global Property Manager/Real Estate Developer.
Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, the General Counsel/Chief Compliance Officer will oversee day-to-day legal support and resources as well as be responsible for providing executives with advice regarding risk mitigation for various commercial and residential real estate matters. This role will serve as the company's Fair Housing Officer, in order to address management on fair housing requests, overseeing Section 504 site logs, as well as responding to and tracking all complaints received from government agencies. Main Responsibilities: * Review and assure consistent risk transfer, indemnification and feedback for corporate contracts, property level service contracts including property management agreements, lease forms, etc. * Must stay abreast of all laws applicable to the real estate industry including but not limited to fair housing, affordable housing, rent regulation, OSHA and other laws, and their interpretations. * Advise on standard practices to mitigate financial and reputational risk factors. * Review forms used at operating assets to ensure consistency across the portfolio and assure proper authority for signatories. * Receive, process and manage all litigation and settlement obligations. * Notify applicable owner and property management executives by asset class, location or regulatory program of changes in statutory or regulatory guidance. * Help train employees on different site management requirements and regulations and ensure proper training resources are available at all times. * Review and sign off on marketing plans and tenant selection plans developed by regional staff for affordable housing assets whether acquisitions or for new construction sites, whether as standalone or part of a mixed income development
The Successful Applicant
* JD from a top US law school * Admitted to the NY State Bar * 6-12 years of experience, ideally gained at a top law firm dealing with commercial and residential real estate legal and compliance matters * Must have experience with Fair Housing legal matters * Must have experience dealing with government regulations that apply to mixed-use, commercial and residential properties
