About Our Client

Our client is one of the largest manufacturers of home appliances in Europe, with a successful track record that spans more than 50 years. Their products can be found in more than 100 countries, with expansion driven by the continued investment in Research and Development (R&D) for product innovation in the home environment.

With more than 1,000 researchers and engineers in 10 R&D centers globally, the Assistant R&D Manager will be the first hire in the US center, with a view to creating a hub for excellence and developing breakthrough technology.

Job Description

This position would suit a PhD graduate who has the passion to search for new ideas and identify innovative product potential. The ideal candidate will have an entrepreneurial mind-set to pivot ideas and prototypes to fit into market needs.

In this role, you will be:

  • Responsible for evaluating all aspects of new technologies and report to global headquarters
  • Facilitating collaboration between universities, research institutes, start-up ecosystems and technology companies the in United States and corporate R&D.
  • Attending global meetings of the technology alliances, pitch days and meet-ups to identify potential disruptive technologies, trends, products, business models and partners.
  • Identifying potentially disruptive technologies and technology transfer opportunities to enhance group product and service portfolio.

The Successful Applicant

  • PhD degree in Electronics, Computer Engineering , Material Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics or Mechanical Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in R&D and Technology development.
  • Entrepreneurial experience or experience in a fast paced, start-up style environment is a plus.
  • Knowledge of R&D funding, national and international funding mechanisms.
  • Good technology understanding with experience in conducting assessments of technology concepts.
  • Project management.
  • Being comfortable in developing professional networks, building relationships and collaborations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, develop and mentor others.
  • Flexible enough to work across cultures and time zones.
