Job Description

1. Reconciles assigned general ledger accounts, including an understanding of the functions and transactions that drive the journal entries to the account. Ensures that accounts are reconciled on a timely basis and that reconciling items are identified and accurately documented.

2. Supports the preparation of internal and external reports, including financial statements, regulatory, budget, audit, and additional reports as needed.

3. Prepares and compiles business unit budgets and forecasts. Coordinates revisions and documents explanations with business owners. Expected to evaluate reasonableness of submissions and provide monthly analysis.

4. Supports the finance team in conducting business performance analytics including budget to actual results. Works with Assistant Controller in continual improvement of relevant analysis and identifies improvements to programs and business units.

5. Support budgeting and forecasting with various levels of organizational business owners. Expected to evaluate reasonableness of submissions and provide at a minimum accurate monthly analysis.

6. Maintains appropriate sections of the Finance department policy manual. Maintenance includes identification and documentation of new policies and procedures and review of old policies for accuracy.

7. Supports the accounts payable function as a back-up. Ensures that invoices are properly approved, paid in a timely manner and expenses are properly classified.

8. Works with the Assistant Controller to ensure sound accounting practices and adequate internal controls to protect the Credit Union's assets.

9. Promotes and demonstrates a positive work atmosphere by communicating in a manner consistent with professional standards to work effectively with members, co-workers, management and vendors.

10. Keeps abreast of industry developments, including but not limited to, changes in regulations and technology.

11. Ensures adherence to the credit union policies/procedures and Banking/Credit Union Regulations.

12. Performs additional duties as required.

The Successful Applicant

1. Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.

2. Minimum of three years experience; Accounting experience preferred.

3. Excellent problem-solving, organizational, analytical, verbal and written communication skills.

4. Strong decision making and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects/duties.

5. Trustworthy with the ability to maintain highest level of integrity and trust.

6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

The Financial Accountant performs a major portion of his/her duties through verbal and written communications. It is critical that he / she possess the ability to communicate with clarity, while understanding and explaining complex situations to team members and outside contacts. Accuracy is essential and he / she must possess the ability to proof read documentation and correspondence to insure free of errors and fraud. The person will spend a good portion of the day seated at a workstation, but may also be mobile throughout the credit union for purposes of meetings, working with others, etc.
