The company is focused on rapidly expanding their North American business. They are urgently seeking a highly motivated and ambitious business leader with the gravitas to drive sales growth forward. The business objective is to double sales within 5 years, so the ideal candidate will need strong experience in managing distributors and leading a technical sales team, with expertise in specification selling, plus a track record of beating sales targets.  

Job Description

The VP of Technical Sales, North America will be a home-based, highly motivated individual responsible for managing the North American distributor network and the specification sales team to achieve and exceed sales targets. The jobholder will also control their own portfolio of specifiers and external bodies and identify major projects.

Managing Distributors

·         Spending time in the field with existing distributors to ensure that they are properly trained, carry the correct mix and quantity of inventory, and are well motivated to achieve / exceed the sales targets in the distributor agreements

Managing the Specification Sales Engineers

  • Extensive field accompaniment with each sales engineer to monitor performance and activity, introducing improvement measures as necessary
  • To ensure that the specifications sales team is directed, trained, motivated and controlled to maximize project specifications and resulting distributor sales
  • To ensure that the specification sales team’s  work is effective in terms of journey planning and territory management (leading by example)

Own Portfolio

  • Visit certain key specifiers and external bodies plus identify major projects for the sales team

The Successful Applicant

The VP of Technical Sales, North America should have:

  • A degree in Structural, Civil or Mechanical Engineering
  • A background in the construction or engineering sectors
  • Experience of regular and extensive travel throughout the USA
  • A comprehensive understanding of the specification selling process
  • Experience of managing and motivating a team of US territory based Sales Engineers
  • Experience of managing, motivating and training a distributor network
  • Initiatives and methods for sales performance improvement
  • An understanding of the construction industry and allied trades
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in the business environment
  • Confident at speaking in public for group presentations
  • Team working skills with the ability to manage and motivate others
  • Enthusiastic and pro-active, flexible and self -motivated
