Job Description

Primary Responsibilities include:



  • Provide leadership to the financial reporting organization


  • Direct the preparation of financial statements, analytical review and supporting schedules necessary for internal and external GAAP reporting, including head office reporting.


  • Manage the drafting and filing processes for all quarterly/annual reporting, including covenant compliance to government agencies and lenders


  • Key contact between the Company and external audit regarding annual audits, quarterly reviews and other financial reporting matters of the company and its subsidiaries


  • Monitor FASB and SEC developments to identify and document the potential impact of new pronouncements or other authoritative guidance and manage the implementation of the related accounting and disclosure requirements


  • Establish and manage financial reporting calendar


  • Sharing authority and responsibilities with others to move decision making and accountability downward through the organization; enabling individuals to stretch their capabilities; and accomplishing the business unit's functional priorities


  • Maintain effective communication with other departments as basis for ensuring complete and accurate financial information and disclosures


  • Work with the Chief Accounting Officer and Controller to develop accounting practices, interpret and apply existing and new GAAP as they apply to the company


  • Search for new and improved ways of conducting financial reporting processes; capitalize on system resources and capabilities


  • Assists with special projects and other related duties as may be assigned

The Successful Applicant

Skills and Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree or higher in accounting required


  • CPA required


  • Strong technical understanding of generally accepted accounting principles


  • 8 - 12 years progressively responsible experience including


    • Public Accounting experience; Combination "Big 4" and private accounting experience


    • Financial Reporting experience required


    • Knowledge of real estate and mortgage banking preferred


    • Management experience in leading accounting professionals across multiple locations and interfacing with cross-functional teams is required


  • Experience with JD Edwards E1 general ledger system and Reports Now a strong plus


  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills and strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively interface with multiple levels of management


  • Demonstrated ability to research and interpret accounting guidance and draft accounting memos to support conclusions


  • Demonstrated track record of identifying and implementing process improvements/efficiencies
