About Our Client

Our client is a global consumer packaged goods company located in Carson, CA.

This position will manage the warehouse operation in Carson, CA distributing consumer products / packaged goods to retail / wholesale customers while also performing eCommerce fulfilment. Through subordinate staff, the Warehouse Manager will insure the efficient flow of merchandise (receiving, put-away, picking, and shipping) in coordination with the Materials and Customer Service departments. Furthermore, this individual will establish procedures and measurement systems required to continually lower costs and increase productivity and efficiencies.

Job Description

  • Plan, lead, and measure all daily processes to ensure order fulfillment and production, if present, are completed with excellence and in compliance with customer requirements on a daily basis
  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of existing WMS functionality and, working with management, IT staff and Operations team, optimize warehouse processes to improve efficiency and inventory accuracy
  • Institutionalize operational best practices by incorporating into Standard Operating Procedures and implementing in facility
  • Review, revise and maintain physical layout within warehouse in order to optimize material flow while seeking to maximize capacity and operating efficiency
  • Negotiate freight rates and contracts with truckload, intermodal, LTL and small parcel carriers. Oversee all transport functions. Experience with ocean carriers as plus
  • Achieve financial objectives by preparing an annual budget; actively participating in budget review process; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions
  • Complete warehouse operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees; following up on work results, and monitoring metrics to manage labor expense
  • Maintain warehouse staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees
  • Maintain warehouse staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results
  • Develop and communicate KPI's regularly (weekly, monthly and quarterly, as agreed)
  • Effectively communicate and coordinate within the organization (ex. with Materials team relating to incoming goods, with Customer Service relating to customer orders, etc.)
  • In conjunction with Accounting, perform full physical inventories as required. And, establish, monitor and maintain inventory cycle count procedures and warehouse operating procedures to reduce the frequency in time and when agreed by senior management.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local warehousing, material handling, and shipping requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions. Promote and ensures a clean and safe work environment

The Successful Applicant

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field
  • Minimum of 8 years' Operations experience
  • Prior experience managing fulfillment to retail DC's and eCommerce accounts required
  • Ability to negotiate with transportation vendors and freight lines
  • Demonstrated experience working with a Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) required
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, within the department, across the organization, with vendors and customers
