Job Description

* Oversee and manage day to day accounting operations including: manage monthly and annual financial cycle, process or supervise processing of accounts payable and accounts receivable, oversee billing, maintain general ledger, process E-billing.
* Manage firm cash flow. Monitor all bank accounts daily. Manage IOLTA and Escrow accounts. Supervise monthly account reconciliations.
* Assist with annual expense budget and revenue forecasting. Perform analysis and prepare reports with assistance from COO.
* In conjunction with COO, supervise the workflow and performance of operations assistant.
* Administer the firm's 401(k) plan including employee enrollments and contributions and compliance. Process employee and firm contributions.
* Interact with firm's outside accountant for preparation of tax returns. Prepare annual tax filings including 1099's and Sales & Use Tax. Keep record of fixed assets and depreciation.
* Manage new employee on-boarding. Enroll new employees in benefits.
* Administer all employee benefit plans.
* Assist with collection activities, identifying collection opportunities and working with billing attorneys to discuss options.

The Successful Applicant

* Minimum Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting or similar field of study with strong academic credentials.
* 5+ years in an accounting role, ideally in a law firm. Applicants from other professional services backgrounds will be considered.
* Strong knowledge of law firm or professional services billing and accounting nuances. Juris experience is a plus.
* Hands on practical experience with technology tools and applications typically used in an office setting including MS Office; advanced knowledge of Excel required.

The position requires a high attention to detail, the ability to adhere to deadlines and strong time management skills. Strong analytical and problem solving skills as well as excellent communication skills essential. The Accounting Manager must understand the confidential nature of working in a law firm.
