About Our Client

I'm partnered with the Controller of a multi-million dollar printing and packaging manufacturer (coffee bags, shrink wrap, soft lids for food products). My client originally started out in printing, books and newspapers, based in Canada. About 6 years ago, they made a strategic move into packaging manufacturing to earn 1 billion and a half in sales in a 6-7 year window. HUGE growth and want to continue through organic growth and M&A's. Their Packaging HQ is here in Chicago with plants all across NA, Canada, some in South America.

Job Description

  • Maintain a system of adequate internal controls, encompassing all plant procedures bearing financial risk
  • Manage the accuracy and efficiency of transactional accounting procedures including invoicing/billing, customer credits, payroll, accounts payable, expense reimbursements, and fixed asset acquisition / disposal / transfer.
  • Provide requested information to appointed accounting firm(s) for financial audits.
  • Lead monthly P&L review, providing explanations and highlighting areas of concern (i.e. budget variances).
  • Assess the return of capital projects, auditing against prior commitments and inform management of deviations.
  • Complies with all the standards that are followed in the plant, including, but not limited to Health, Safety, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Continuous Improvement (CI) and any other processes established within the plant.
  • Participates and gets involved in associated committees, activities and events.

The Successful Applicant

  • Bachelor's degree and minimum of 2 years manufacturing accounting with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience & ability to lead teams.
  • Strong background preparing financial statements and financial reports.
  • Proficiency in the use of computer hardware and spreadsheet applications is required.
  • Communicates effectively one-on-one and in groups. Articulates ideas and needs to all organizational levels.
  • Highly organized and self-directed with ability to prioritize projects.
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills with an aptitude to quickly absorb new information and procedures.
  • Build positive relationships both vertically and horizontally throughout the organization.
  • Be transparent and communicate candidly, but with professionalism and respect.
