The Associate Director of Employee and Labor Relations will partner closely with Legal Counsel and HR to be the internal and external face of employee and labor relations. This person will partner directly with five unions for collective bargaining, any grievances, and arbitration hearings, as well as manage end to end employee relations investigations and make recommendations regarding next steps based on findings.

This NYC based cultural institution is world renowned for their contributions to the art world. This role sits within their very collaborative HR team and will be in office in Downtown Manhattan on a hybrid basis.

Job Description

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for union representatives, ensuring effective communication and collaboration on all labor-related matters.
  • Manage a high volume of grievances, arbitrations, and disciplinary cases, ensuring timely and equitable resolution.
  • Partner with legal counsel to provide recommendations on complex employee relations matters, including investigations and performance issues.
  • Lead negotiations and manage collective bargaining agreements (CBAs), ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Design and implement strategies to enhance labor relations, mitigate risk, and support organizational goals.
  • Conduct training for HR and management teams on labor relations best practices and compliance with labor laws.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of employment and labor regulations to ensure organizational compliance.
  • Collaborate with HR leadership to align labor relations strategies with broader organizational priorities.

The Successful Applicant

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Business Administration, or a related field. Advanced degree or certification in labor relations is preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in employee and labor relations, including managing unionized workforces.
  • Demonstrated experience handling grievances, arbitrations, and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local labor laws and regulations.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and negotiation skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage high-volume workloads and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
