About Our Client

My client is a family owned and operated company within the CPG space that is growing rapidly. The Category Manager - Packaging position is open due to internal growth leaving room to grow within the organization. This is an exciting opportunity for someone that has a experience within packaging procurement and wants to move up into a category management role.

Job Description

  1. Strategic Sourcing:
    • Develop and execute sourcing strategies for packaging materials to support the company's production needs and objectives.
    • Identify and evaluate potential packaging suppliers/vendors based on quality, reliability, cost, and sustainability criteria.
    • Negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing agreements with suppliers to optimize value and minimize risks.

  2. Supplier Management:
    • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with packaging suppliers/vendors.
    • Monitor supplier performance, including on-time delivery, quality compliance, and responsiveness.
    • Address any issues or concerns promptly and effectively to ensure continuous supply chain operations.

  3. Procurement Operations:
    • Oversee the procurement process for packaging materials, including requisition, purchase order creation, and order tracking.
    • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, such as production, quality assurance, and logistics teams, to ensure alignment of packaging materials with production schedules and quality standards.
    • Implement inventory management strategies to optimize stock levels while minimizing excess inventory and stockouts.

  4. Cost Management:
    • Conduct cost analysis and market research to identify cost-saving opportunities and potential risks in the packaging supply chain.
    • Develop and implement cost reduction initiatives without compromising quality or service levels.
    • Monitor and track packaging material costs, variances, and budget adherence.

  5. Quality Assurance and Compliance:
    • Work closely with quality assurance teams to ensure that packaging materials meet regulatory and quality standards.
    • Conduct supplier audits and assessments to ensure compliance with company standards and industry regulations.
    • Address any quality issues or non-compliance issues with suppliers promptly and effectively.

  6. Continuous Improvement:
    • Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency enhancements in procurement and supply chain operations.
    • Implement best practices, tools, and technologies to streamline procurement processes and enhance productivity.
    • Lead or participate in cross-functional teams for projects related to packaging innovation, sustainability, or process optimization.

The Successful Applicant

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field; Master's degree is a plus.
  • 5 years of experience in procurement, sourcing, or supply chain management, with a focus on packaging materials.
  • Strong knowledge of procurement principles, practices, and techniques, particularly in the packaging industry.
  • Proven negotiation skills and ability to build and maintain effective supplier relationships.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

What's on Offer

Target compensation for the Category Manager - Packaging is $110,000 - $125,000 base salary + Bonus. Compensation is commensurate with candidate experience.
