About Our Client

Our Client has been been supplying the commercial, business jet, military, rotorcraft and spacecraft markets for over 65 years. More specifically, our Client produces advanced manufacturing techniques in the design and fabrication of temperature sensors, thermocouple systems, interconnect cable-harness assemblies, probes and sensors.

Job Description

The Chief Engineer is the technical anchor within the business unit and is responsible for leading, motivating, and inspiring a team of engineers to ensure successful execution of new product development and R&D activities within the aerospace industry. The Chief Engineer shall have the ability to conceptualize new designs and solutions with self-motivated core competencies of design for cost, weight, manufacturability, maintainability, qualification, and quality. The Chief Engineer is accountable for owning and executing the New Product Development processes within the Business Unit as well as serving as the technical focal point for all existing product families.

  • Manage a team of engineers, technicians, and consultants and provide coaching, feedback, supervision, and direction.
  • Lead and own the New Product Development (NPD) process through all development stages as required with minimal supervision.
  • Maintains awareness in state-of-the-art technologies; provides innovative ideas that can create new product concepts and commercialized products.
  • Supports the delivery of high-quality product to the production team via the Production Readiness process with a cross-functional, collaborative mindset.
  • Collaborate with the Supply Chain team to ensure the timely procurement of materials and properly timed execution of work orders to maintain proper on-time-delivery of products throughout the NPD phase.
  • Supports the Sales Team in customer visits and proposal generation to support new business opportunities and develop new products.
  • Successfully execute full environmental and EMI qualification test procedures to rigorous aerospace standards (DO-160, MIL-STD-810). Knowledge of DO-254 and DO-178 a plus.
  • Develops products using excellent technical skills and approaches (design of experiments methodology, characterization/testing, material/process/fabrication)Contributes to the expansion of Client's Intellectual Property portfolio by providing innovative solutions to technical challenges within the aerospace industry.
  • Participate in training as required.
  • Able to travel domestic and international up to 15%.
  • To conform with US export regulations and ITAR 120.15 and EAR Part 772, incumbents for this role must be eligible for any required authorizations from the US government.

The Successful Applicant

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering in Aerospace Engineering or closely related field.
  • MS/PhD) in a related Engineering field preferred.
  • At least 10 years professional level engineering work in aerospace industry.
  • Successful track record of developing products that generate significant business revenue.
  • Aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) cable harness and/or sensors knowledge a plus.
  • Must have project management experience.
  • Must have served as team lead or Project Manager for new product design or development.
  • Prefer prior people-management experience (directly supervising or managing employees).

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of the design and use of cables, sensors, and component products for Aerospace applications.
  • Possess an innovative, forward-thinking mentality to facilitate concurrent R&D initiatives
  • Maintain a steady growth of new products to drive profitable new business.
  • Must be able to work with customers to define and document requirements, address technical concerns and provide project status.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to make technical presentations to internal and external customers.
  • Well-versed in general mechanical, electrical and software systems used in the operation of aviation sensor products or their manufacture.
  • Must be fluent in solid modeling and related analysis software.
  • Strong background in material selection and application (ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics, insulators, and potting compounds).
  • Analog and digital electronics design a plus.
  • Ability to set priorities to meet internal & external customer demands.
  • Must be highly organized, a self-starter and able to work independently.
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
