Job Description

  • Oversee all accounting and financial functions, including general ledger, trust accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, regulatory requirements, and legal industry-specific financial rules (including IOLTA trust account management).
  • Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for firm leadership.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls to protect firm assets and ensure financial integrity.
  • Manage cash flow, budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning to support firm growth.
  • Work closely with partners and department heads to analyze financial performance and profitability.
  • Oversee billing, collections, and client trust accounting to ensure accuracy and adherence to industry regulations.
  • Lead financial audit processes, tax preparation, and liaise with external auditors and tax advisors.
  • Evaluate and enhance financial systems, reporting tools, and accounting software to improve efficiency.
  • Provide mentorship and leadership to the finance team, fostering professional growth and development.

The Successful Applicant

  • CPA certification required; MBA preferred.
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, with public accounting experience (Big 4 or regional firm preferred).
  • Experience in a law firm or professional services environment is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, trust accounting (IOLTA), financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Proficiency in law firm accounting software (e.g., Elite 3E, Aderant, Clio, QuickBooks).
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP or financial management systems.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with partners, attorneys, and administrative staff.
