The newly created COO role will be crucial in the Development firm's expansion across the US.Historically our client have developed projects from inception through to NTP. They are now evolving to become an IPP where the focus will be utility-scale solar, storage and wind projects across PJM, MISO, SERC, ISO-NE- NY-ISO.

They are looking to appoint a COO who will be crucial in their expansion plans as they look to double their headcount and project portfolio.

Job Description

The COO (Renewable Energy) will be responsible for:

Operational Leadership:

  • Work closely with leaders across the business ensuring that all processes are executed efficiently and effectively.
  • Work closely with the executive team to establish and implement operational strategies that align with the company's long-term goals.
  • Develop and enforce standardized procedures and best practices to ensure consistency, quality, and compliance in all operations.

Contract Management:

  • Lead the development and management of land lease agreements, ensuring alignment with project timelines, budgets, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with legal, finance, and project teams to draft, review, and negotiate contracts to support the successful execution of renewable energy projects.
  • Establish processes for ongoing lease management, including renewals, amendments, and compliance monitoring.



Permitting & Regulatory Compliance:

  • Oversee and streamline the permitting process to ensure timely approvals and adherence to local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Collaborate with governmental agencies, environmental consultants, and other stakeholders to navigate complex permitting requirements.
  • Implement processes to track and manage permitting timelines and requirements for multiple projects simultaneously.



Interconnection & Grid Integration:

  • Develop and implement processes for managing interconnection agreements with utilities and grid operators, ensuring efficient integration of renewable energy projects.
  • Establish strong relationships with utility companies and regulatory bodies to ensure timely and cost-effective interconnection.
  • Monitor interconnection processes and address challenges or delays proactively.



Project Management:

  • Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of renewable energy projects from inception through construction.
  • Implement standardized project management methodologies, tools, and reporting systems to ensure that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.



Process Optimization & Continuous Improvement:

  • Analyze and identify areas for process improvement across all operational functions.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve the overall effectiveness of the company's operations.
  • Implement performance metrics and monitoring systems to track operational effectiveness and outcomes.



Cross-functional Collaboration:

  • Foster collaboration between departments such as development, legal, finance, operations, and engineering to ensure smooth project progression and alignment with company objectives.
  • Provide strategic input to the CEO and board regarding operational performance, opportunities, and challenges.

The Successful Applicant

The COO (Renewable Energy) will have:

Experience;

  • Minimum of 12 years of operational leadership experience, with at least 10 years in the renewable energy sector (solar, wind, or other renewables).
  • Proven track record in optimizing operations and driving process improvements.



Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, engineering, environmental science, or related field. An MBA or advanced degree is preferred.



Skills & Abilities:

  • Deep knowledge of renewable energy project development, regulatory frameworks, and industry standards.
  • Strong project management skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and with external stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on data-driven decision-making.
  • Exceptional leadership, team-building, and mentoring abilities.
