Reporting to the SVP Small Molcules, the BD Director will play a key leadership role in identifying, developing and delivering new business opportunities in the SF Bay Area. This individual will manage and enhance on-going business relationships and regularly communicate with scientific leaders with target biotech/pharma customers.

  • Global CDMO with CMC centers in the US & UK

This client is a global, publicly traded CDMO with sites across US, UK and Asia. The business is a world-wide market leader in small molecules and finished in 2024 with over 5% YoY growth ($1.7b) despite market challenges. Centers in the US and UK cover Phase I/II/III clinical development and commercial on an industrial scale.

Job Description

  • Build and manage a robust pipeline of deals and partnerships aligned with the company's value creation strategy for customers, based on their current and future product positions;
  • Achieve agreed sales and profit budgets/targets.
  • Work closely with the SVP to drive long-range planning and business development strategy based on the overall corporate strategy, financing needs and organizational capabilities; this includes continuing to position company as a differentiated, next generation CDMO;
  • Review and generate proposals for customers based on technical and commercial requirements;
  • Deliver sales presentations and value pitches to clients;
  • Lead and execute business development initiatives including outreach to potential partners and sourcing, diligence and transaction execution associated with partner contracts;
  • Develop business analyses to support future opportunities, assess the commercial competitive landscape and help evaluate the commercial potential of new opportunities;
  • Work with scientists to formulate business proposals and presentations based on a good understanding of resources, materials and other inputs required to deliver projects such that those proposals can be developed into profitable commercial contracts.
  • Identify and access sources of information that provide excellent market intelligence of the developments within the pharmaceutical industry and share that information internally to enhance understanding and potentially identify new business opportunities.

The Successful Applicant

  • PhD or MS (Chemistry preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience in the biotech/biopharma ecosystem, preferably in Process Chemistry
  • Proven track record in a business development / client partnership facing role for provision of CMC / API services
  • Strong understanding of small molecule drug discovery, development and commercialization.
