Job Description

  1. Labor Relations Management:
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for all union-related matters, including contract negotiations, grievance resolution, and day-to-day labor relations.
    • Collaborate with union representatives to ensure adherence to collective bargaining agreements and promote effective working relationships.
    • Provide guidance and support to management on labor relations issues, ensuring compliance with relevant labor laws and regulations.

  2. Employee Engagement and Development:
    • Develop and implement initiatives to enhance employee engagement, satisfaction, and retention within the distribution center.
    • Facilitate training programs and development opportunities to support career growth and skill enhancement for unionized employees.
    • Address employee concerns and grievances promptly and impartially, promoting a culture of fairness and respect.

  3. HR Strategy and Policy Development:
    • Develop and execute HR strategies that support business objectives while considering the unique needs of a unionized workforce.
    • Review and update HR policies and procedures to ensure alignment with labor laws, collective bargaining agreements, and company values.
    • Provide guidance to management on HR best practices, compliance issues, and employee relations matters.

  4. Performance Management and Compliance:
    • Oversee performance management processes, including goal setting, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions, ensuring consistency and fairness.
    • Monitor compliance with company policies, union contracts, and relevant labor laws, taking proactive measures to address any issues or risks.
    • Conduct investigations into allegations of misconduct, discrimination, or other HR-related concerns, maintaining confidentiality and integrity throughout the process.

  5. Strategic Planning and Collaboration:
    • Partner with senior leadership to develop and implement HR strategies that support the overall business objectives and drive operational excellence.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, legal, and finance, to address workforce-related challenges and opportunities.
    • Stay informed about industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in labor relations and HR management, applying knowledge to drive continuous improvement.

The Successful Applicant

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive HR experience, with a focus on labor relations and employee engagement, preferably in a distribution center or manufacturing environment.
  • Union experience required
  • Strong understanding of labor laws, collective bargaining agreements, and union-management relations.
  • Demonstrated experience in contract negotiations, grievance resolution, and labor arbitration.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders and build strong working relationships.
  • SHRM or HRCI certification preferred.
