The Director of Quality is a strategic and hands‑on leader responsible for building and sustaining a strong food safety and quality culture within a high‑growth, mission‑driven beverage manufacturer. This role owns the end‑to‑end Quality function across internal manufacturing operations and external partners, ensuring the safe production of high‑quality products that meet regulatory, certification, and brand standards.

Job Description

  • Own and continuously improve the company's Food Safety and Quality Management Systems, including HACCP, Preventive Controls, and GMP compliance
  • Lead and oversee all Quality Assurance and Quality Control programs across manufacturing sites, co‑manufacturers, and suppliers
  • Serve as the primary owner of food safety certification programs (e.g., SQF or equivalent) and lead regulatory and third‑party audits
  • Ensure compliance with FDA, USDA (including Organic, where applicable), state, and relevant international regulatory requirements
  • Drive a proactive quality culture through training, clear accountability, and leadership development
  • Lead deviation management, root cause investigations, and CAPA programs to ensure effective and sustainable resolution
  • Define, track, and report quality KPIs across internal operations and external partners
  • Build and manage supplier and co‑manufacturer quality programs, including audits and performance management
  • Partner with R&D and Operations to embed quality throughout product development, scale‑up, and commercialization
  • Oversee label compliance, claims review, and regulatory readiness for new product launches
  • Maintain recall readiness, crisis management plans, and regulatory response procedures
  • Monitor regulatory trends and proactively adapt policies and procedures as requirements evolve
  • Develop and manage the Quality budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility
  • Support packaging and material compliance, including supplier qualifications and safety validation

The Successful Applicant

A successful Director of Quality Assurance should have:

  • 15+ years of progressive Quality experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Prior experience in food and beverage manufacturing preferred
  • Experience managing or overseeing third‑party or co‑manufacturing partners
  • Certifications such as PCQI, HACCP, and internal auditing required; food safety certification leadership experience (e.g., SQF Practitioner or equivalent) strongly preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of FDA regulations and food safety requirements
  • Proven ability to operate both strategically and tactically in fast‑growth environments
  • Excellent communication, organization, and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to lead, develop, and motivate teams
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to partner manufacturing sites
