They are steadily growing, having just opened a new plant in Texas, and have been adding to their headcount of 100+ total employees.

Job Description

  • Develop and oversee Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) policies and procedures, ensuring EHS accountability is embedded across all leadership levels and among employees at every location.
  • Drive employee engagement in the Management of Environmental, Safety, and Health (MESH) Assessment System.
  • Champion the "ACHIEVE ZERO" safety culture by providing guidance on EHS issues, interpreting relevant regulations, and offering practical, effective solutions.
  • Integrate EHS policies into daily operations, offering support and direction to leadership, branch managers, and supervisors.
  • Coordinate EHS initiatives across all sites and departments to create a safer environment for employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Lead MESH assessments, Process Safety Management (PSM)/Risk Management Plan (RMP) audits, Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) re-validations, and other EHS-related audits.
  • Manage the development, implementation, and monitoring of EHS procedures, practices, and record-keeping systems.
  • Ensure timely, accurate submission of compliance reports to EPA, OSHA, FRA, and DOT.
  • Establish clear EHS goals and objectives across all organizational levels.
  • Stay informed on evolving EHS regulations and best practices to maintain compliance with local, state, and federal requirements, while ensuring clear communication of EHS policies.
  • Conduct thorough accident and incident investigations using cause-mapping techniques to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions. Interview employees to gain insights and assess the effectiveness of implemented solutions.
  • Ensure health and safety policies are effectively communicated and that all employees receive necessary training, with regular updates and maintenance of training records.
  • Continuously review risk assessments for equipment and processes, evaluating the effectiveness of safety protocols and controls.
  • Apply knowledge of human behavior and equipment safety to mitigate risks of injury, property damage, and operational errors.
  • Focus on identifying and controlling chemical and physical hazards in the workplace to prevent injury and illness, while educating employees on safe work practices.
  • Review new processes, equipment, and Management of Change (MOC) requests to ensure compliance with EHS standards.
  • Lead the company's Safety Committees, fostering a collaborative, proactive approach to workplace safety.
  • Monitor, track, and report on EHS system performance to support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Promote the "Achieve Zero" safety culture, striving for a zero-injury, zero-incident workplace by instilling a safety-first, results-oriented mindset across all teams.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

The Successful Applicant

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an EH&S role within the chemical manufacturing industry or a related field.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Strong understanding of municipal, regional, and federal regulations related to Hazardous Materials and Environmental compliance.
  • Proficient in OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) and EPA Risk Management Plan (RMP) regulations.
  • Ability to interpret and apply federal and state regulations, understanding their intent to develop appropriate solutions tailored to specific work environments.
  • Strong creative thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Keen observational skills with attention to detail.
