My client has been a global leader in innovative climate and air treatment solutions since 1955. They are expanding their growing FoodTech business unit and are looking for an experienced General Manager to lead their skilled local team on a profitable growth strategy.

You Will:

  • Scope, initiate and track strategic projects for profitable growth of the US Business Unit (BU), located in Lansing, Michigan. These projects should support theFoodTech global strategy and includes more specifically:
    • Expanding sales into segments targeted by the BU along with adequate sales and marketing coverage for each, especially greenhouse
    • Expanding the portfolio of products sold into each of the targeted segments
    • Coordination with other strategic projects within FoodTech on connected farms and software to ensure customers have a seamless experience of a vertically connected operation
    • Identify opportunities for starting up of a service business and developing this
    • Initiate efforts to create an improved contact network between the BU and influencers and other role players within each of the targeted segments
  • Ensure resource availability from all functions for these strategic projects and co-ordinate efforts between various functions in cross functional teams and resolve any resource issues hindering the progress or these strategic progress
  • On a day-to-day basis, coordinate efforts of various functions in a global matrix organization to ensure the smooth running of the BU. Functions involved are Sales, Marketing, Product Management, Application Engineering, R&D, Operations, Strategic Operations, Administration and Business Area Management
  • Coaching and growing of the Lansing management team to form a coherent management team focused on common goals. Some member of the management team might be direct reports to others within the global matrix organization
  • Coach and develop the sales team consisting of commissioned reps
  • Ensure that there is a well maintained sales process active in the BU consisting of: annual territory sales and marketing plans; annual key account plans; setting of sales and marketing targets; follow-up of quote pipeline activities and progress; forecasting
  • Ensure that a healthy Sales and Operation Planning (S&OP) process is maintained in the BU
  • Have full P&L responsibility of the Lansing BU

The Successful Applicant

You Have:

  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
  • General management skills, specifically in working globally and across functions
  • Very good understanding the dynamics of indirect sales channels, specifically dealers and commissioned reps
  • Experience of sales in a B2B environment based around capital goods
  • Very good understanding of technology
  • High focus and track record of delivering on promises
  • Fluency in English; others a clear advantage, e.g. Spanish

Education and Experience:

  • Technical or Finance degree; MBA desired
  • Substantial experience of leading a Sales organization
  • Experience of managing a P&L that included Operations
  • Experience of working in a business environment focused on manufacturing and sales of industrial equipment preferred
