The client is a company that operates a leading network of global futures, equity and equity options exchanges, as well as global clearing and data services across financial and commodity markets from Chicago.

They are a high-growth company that started by bringing transparency and risk management to the global derivatives markets. Their software engineers create, deploy, and improve technology that solves market structure challenges on behalf of the industry.

Their client's include banks, brokerage firms, mutual funds companies, ETF sponsors, hedge funds, pension funds, insurance companies and asset management firms.

They urgently need a Java Software Developer to joing either on a hybrid or fully remote basis in the Downtown Chicago, IL office. The Software Engineer will help architect and build their next-generation services for financial markets. In addition to having experience building full-stack web/mobile applications, the selected candidate should have excellent communication skills. The firm is a fast-moving environment that values concise and effective communication.

The candidate must also be a team player that can work independently, escalating issues when appropriate. Their tight knit Software Development team works well together and can take constructive criticism in the spirit of improving software quality. This person will be involved in all aspects of software development, from architecture to design, coding, testing, and performance tuning. This is a very hands-on role where you will have immediate impact on our current development projects.

Job Description

The Selected Java Software Developer Will:

  • Participate in cloud migration and modernizing current data systems.
  • Prepare and ingest data into financial forecasting models and be responsible for timeliness and accuracy of such data processes.
  • Build data pipelines, reporting infrastructures and help develop new FP&A processes and analyses that add value for all stakeholders.
  • Innovate and develop the client-side measurement platform.
  • Implement SQL composition skills that collects and queries data for investigation and analysis in real time from our applications.
  • Ensure high performance and responsiveness of the JavaScript application and components.
  • Utilize testing frameworks to ensure high quality when appropriate.
  • Analyze data and perform troubleshooting to resolve issues and understand how our technology is functioning "in the wild".
  • Implement various components in JavaScript and TypeScript.
  • Improve upon the data ingestion models, ETL jobs, and alarming to maintain data integrity and data availability.
  • Collaborate closely with product teams and other cross-functional teams.
  • Work with the latest technologies: You'll gain exposure to a broad spectrum of IoT and SaaS technology. Our tech stack includes .NET, SQL Server, Kafka, Ember.js, Node.js, as well as native iOS and Android applications.

The Successful Applicant

The Successful Software Engineer has:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline, a Master's is a plus.
  • Master in Java development and highly proficient in at least one other backend OO language is required
  • 2+ years of professional (non-intern, non-contrat) experience in development.
  • 2+ years of professional development experience in Java
  • Experience in large volume ETL (Good knowledge of SQL programming)
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies
  • Expertise in performance profiling, ability to identify performance improvements and memory optimizations
  • Experience in large scale enterprise application design and implementation
  • Experience with external facing APIs and/or third-party platform integrations
  • Ability to work in fast development environment and quickly adapt to the changes
  • Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software design and integration
