Job Description

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Materials Science with 8+ years of experience, or Ph.D. with 3+ years of experience in Laser/Laser Diode environment.
  • Highly desirable: Experience in Gallium Nitride materials systems (design/modeling, epitaxy, fabrication, or testing).
  • Development and execution of Failure Analysis strategy.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability to direct and influence the organization across multiple functional departments; strong collaboration skills.
  • Experience with laser diode testing, including light-current-voltage (LIV), spectra, near field, and far field beam parameters under CW conditions is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with reliability stress testing, such as accelerated temperature, high humidity, temperature and power cycling, ESD.
  • Preferred: Deep statistical analysis of large datasets/Six Sigma/PFMEA experience.
  • Proficient with software data analysis tools (JMP, Minitab, Excel, or similar) and data processing software (Python, Matlab, or similar).
  • Knowledge of semiconductor device physics and/or reliability engineering.
  • Strong organizational and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask projects in a dynamic environment

The Successful Applicant

Most Important - Extensive experience working with Laser Diodes Principal Areas/Functions:

75% Reliability Improvement and Failure Analysis:

  • Establish protocols: burn-in, HAST, HALT, multi-cell reliability for product development, qualification, and production screening.
  • Oversee failure analysis (FA) to determine root cause using internal resources or external vendors, providing feedback for process improvement.
  • Analyze laser device performance throughout development and reliability testing; correlate performance drifts to design inputs.
  • Monitor GaN Laser Diode qualification stress tests, including accelerated lifetime, environmental, mechanical, ESD tests to meet customer requirements.
  • Collaborate with device design engineers and technical program managers (PMs) from initial concept through manufacturing release.
  • Develop, execute, and improve BluGlass Device packaging & testing processes and qualification plans.
  • Develop internal infrastructure and external contract manufacturers (CMs) for process improvement.
  • Collaborate with test engineers and technicians for functional testing of each product, including laser current-power-voltage, spectra/junction temperature measurements, near and far field measurements.
  • Provide updates on qualification testing via email updates, customer presentations, internal reviews, and documented reports.
  • Define technical objectives and manage projects through development phases (feasibility, alpha, beta) into production to meet milestones and reliability requirements.
  • Collaborate with testing and reliability groups to design and set up new test systems for measuring laser diode performance.



25% Technical Program Interaction:

  • Maintain knowledge of state-of-the-art principles for advancing laser diode performance.
  • Monitor Laser Diode performance in development and production.
  • Establish, monitor, analyze, and report key performance metrics to project teams and management.
  • Participate in patent application development.
  • Publish and present results at industry events and trade shows.
  • Engage in program reporting, proposal writing, and management for commercial and government programs.
