Job Description

  1. Provide administrative support: Assist attorneys and paralegals with managing calendars, scheduling appointments, organizing meetings, and maintaining electronic and physical files.
  2. Document preparation: Draft, proofread, and edit legal documents, including contracts, briefs, pleadings, and correspondence.
  3. Legal research: Conduct thorough legal research using various resources to gather relevant case law, statutes, regulations, and legal opinions to support case preparation and legal analysis.
  4. Case management: Assist in managing case files, including organizing and maintaining documents, monitoring deadlines, and tracking case developments.
  5. Communication and correspondence: Prepare and respond to routine correspondence, maintain contact with clients, and communicate with external parties, such as opposing counsel, court personnel, and government agencies.
  6. Court filings and docket management: Prepare and file legal documents with courts, administrative agencies, and other relevant entities. Monitor and update case dockets and deadlines.
  7. Trial preparation: Assist in preparing for trials, hearings, and depositions by organizing exhibits, coordinating with witnesses, and preparing trial notebooks.
  8. Billing and timekeeping: Assist with tracking billable hours, preparing invoices, and maintaining billing records.
  9. Maintain confidentiality: Handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and adhere to legal and ethical obligations regarding client privacy and confidentiality.
  10. Stay updated: Keep abreast of changes in laws, regulations, and legal procedures that may impact the firm's practice areas.

The Successful Applicant

  1. Education: Bachelor's degree in legal studies or a related field is preferred. Paralegal certification is a plus.
  2. Experience: Previous experience working as a legal assistant or in a similar legal support role is preferred. Familiarity with legal terminology, procedures, and document preparation is highly desirable.
  3. Strong organizational skills: Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  4. Attention to detail: Exceptional accuracy in document preparation, data entry, and proofreading.
  5. Research skills: Proficient in conducting legal research using online databases, legal libraries, and other resources.
  6. Communication skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with attorneys, clients, and external parties.
  7. Computer proficiency: Proficient in using legal software, case management systems, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
