About Our Client

My client are an infrastructure services company who have the backing of a large international infrastructure fund, and have begun an exciting phase of rapid and impressive growth. Their office is based in Manhattan, New York and they have over 50 employees already. Their aim is to have 150 employees by the end of 2023, and they have exclusively engaged with Michael Page to secure their next Manager of Regulatory & Legislative Affairs.

Reporting to the Managing Director, the Manager Regulatory and Legislative Affairs - Renewables - NYC will -

  • Advocate for changes to legislation, regulations, tariffs, and policies that impact the company business in the clean energy sector in a manner that results in positive outcomes for the investment fund who back the company.
  • Manage relationships and advocate company positions before state utility regulators and other agencies, senior staff and stakeholders.
  • Represent and negotiate on behalf of the company in key regulatory proceedings and other public forums that affect transmission rates and terms, interconnection requirements, wholesale market design, and clean energy policies.
  • Manage regulatory/legislative issues with key industry groups and their regional partners and represents the Company in processes associated with those partners.
  • Analyze proposals in relevant areas that impact transmission, interconnection, operations, and market participation and solicits information on company impacts from affected company commercial and operational personnel and management.
  • Conduct proactive communication with key commercial and operational company personnel and management on legislative and regulatory issues that affect the business and articulates strategies to mitigate or influence those issues.
  • Manage the submission of Company filings and coordinates company input for trade-group filings with regulatory agencies.
  • Work on specific internal tasks and reporting to ensure the investment fund remains in compliance with all regulatory and market requirements.
  • Provide input to management and internal teams on regulatory risks and regulatory strategic plans at the regional, state, and/or local level.

The Successful Applicant

In return for a competitive remuneration package, the successful ideal Manager Regulatory and Legislative Affairs - Renewables - NYC will possess the following:

  • 5-10 years of energy industry experience with a minimum 5-years of experience in policy, regulation, or market structure.
  • Superior written and oral communication skills as well as strong aptitude for building and maintaining positive relationships.
  • Ability to analyse existing or proposed tariffs, regulations, and market structures and determine both economic and operations impacts on current practices then propose / implement alternative solutions to position company assets and developments favourably.
  • Able to function independently and exhibit sound decision-making skills.
  • Strong understanding of the energy business and market structures both organised and bilateral in the U.S.
