My client is a leading technology company specializing in advanced radiation detection solutions for scientific, industrial, and defense applications. With decades of expertise in developing high-performance instrumentation, they design and manufacture cutting-edge X-ray and gamma-ray detection systems, digital pulse processors, and other precision analytical tools. Their products are widely used across industries, including aerospace, environmental monitoring, materials analysis, and semiconductor processing.

Originally established to serve space instrumentation needs, my client has expanded its capabilities to develop commercial radiation detection technologies. Their innovative solutions have contributed to numerous research and exploration missions, as well as practical applications such as non-destructive testing, process control, and homeland security. Their pioneering work in thermoelectrically cooled X-ray detectors has set industry standards, enabling portable and cost-effective analysis methods that were previously unattainable.

Now part of a larger materials analysis division within a global technology group, my client continues to push the boundaries of detection technology. Their facility, located in the greater Boston area, houses state-of-the-art production, R&D, and cleanroom capabilities, supporting ongoing advancements in radiation detection and electronic instrumentation. With a strong foundation in engineering excellence, they remain at the forefront of precision measurement solutions for complex and demanding environments.

Job Description

The Quality Manager, Aerospace & Defense Manufacturing will:

  • Implement and maintain the Quality Management System (QMS) through ISO 9001 certification and compliance.
  • Provide quality coaching to employees and leadership to enhance execution of procedures and customer satisfaction.
  • Identify and resolve production quality issues to prevent work stoppages and ensure on-time deliveries.
  • Lead quality management and operational excellence initiatives in a diversified manufacturing environment.
  • Support new product development by ensuring smooth transitions from design to production.
  • Manage Cost of Non-Conformance (Scrap/Warranty) to support financial objectives.
  • Establish and maintain productive customer relationships, addressing quality concerns with data-driven solutions.
  • Oversee customer evaluations of reported product failures and corrective action processes.
  • Conduct internal quality audits and report QMS compliance status to management.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and Kaizen.
  • Ensure corrective actions are effective in preventing recurrence and report progress to leadership.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement operational excellence strategies.
  • Onsite at our Burlington, MA location

The Successful Applicant

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or Quality Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Senior Quality Engineer or Quality Manager in a manufacturing environment, preferably in electronic instrumentation or lab equipment. Experience in aerospace and defense manufacturing is a plus.
  • Experience with ISO Internal Auditing and Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing is a plus.
  • Experience managing manufacturing process controls and driving operational excellence.
  • Ability to implement and support process improvements and quality initiatives across teams.
  • Local to Burlington, MA
