Job Description

The Senior IP Counsel will work closely with the business to advise on a wide range of legal matters affecting different brands, including:

  • Partnering directly with brand teams to advise on the administration and protection of both global and US trademark portfolios
  • Draft, review and negotiate trademark, copyright and marketing related contracts, including license agreements, influencer/artist agreements, settlement agreements, etc.
  • Advising the business on IP transactions as they relate to M&A activity (drafting agreements, due diligence)
  • Advise the business on clearance searching, rendering availability opinions, filing programs, false advertising risk, claims substantiation, right of publicity and additional IP related issues
  • Manage all IP enforcement matters for the brands, including managing outside counsel on litigation matters
  • Work closely with the business to counsel on a wide range of marketing matters
  • Work as an individual contributor, handling a wide range of IP related matters autonomously

The Successful Applicant

  • JD
  • NY State Bar
  • 7+ years of experience working as an IP Counsel, ideally gained in-house within the CPG/FMCG space supporting multiple brands
  • Extensive experience in both Global and US trademark portfolio management, prosecution and brand protection
  • Experience with clearance searching, rendering availability opinions, etc.
  • Experience advising on false advertising, FTC compliance, right of publicity, etc.
  • Experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating IP-related agreements
  • Experience advising on IP matters as they relate to M&A activity
  • Experience advising internal business partners across multiple brands
  • Exposure to and understanding of copyright, trade secret and patent protection
  • Self-starter who enjoys being an individual contributor and working autonomously
