Job Description

The SMT Manufacturing Engineer's responsibilities will include the following tasks:

Key Responsibilities:



  • Develop and optimize processes to meet high-performance, high-volume surface mount manufacturing and reliability requirements.


  • Utilize SPC and problem-solving techniques to improve process capabilities and Cpk.


  • Identify failure mechanisms in surface mount assembly and related processes, implementing improvements to enhance yield, reliability, and manufacturability under tight deadlines.


  • Collaborate with design, quality, and operations teams to ensure that product performance, reliability, and manufacturability goals are met.


  • Take a hands-on approach in creating paste and flux printing programs, AOI inspection programs, solder paste inspection programs, and reflow profiles.


  • Participate in printed circuit board design reviews, focusing on manufacturability.

The Successful Applicant

The successful SMT Manufacturing Engineer should have the following:

Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Industrial Engineering.


  • At least three years of experience in surface mount technology.


  • Strong understanding of high-volume SMT equipment, materials, and processes.


  • Proficiency in Minitab or other statistical analysis software, and Excel.


  • Proven track record of improving yields, throughput, and Cpk in a high-volume production environment.


  • Hands-on experience in creating solder paste/flux printing programs, SPI and AOI inspection programs, and reflow profiles.


  • Expertise in SPC, design of experiments, and statistical analyses to drive improvements.


  • Familiarity with Six Sigma tools (FMEA, control plans) to identify and prevent issues.


  • Ability to think independently and creatively to solve technical challenges in a fast-paced environment.


  • Experience with ASM Siplace Pick and Place is a plus, but not required.


  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
