About Our Client

Our client for the Software Controls Engineer opportunity is a manufacturer of Electric Vehicles (EV) for the Military and Department of Defense.The Software Controls Engineer will be a part of the development team working on the E-Mobility product and platform in development with several patents pending. This off - road electric vehicle will serve as a vital piece of technology and transportation for the department of defense out in the field. The client has several other E-Mobility developments in the pipeline as well. The Software Controls Engineer will perform product design, systems analysis and programming activities on applications and systems network and systems software.

  • Perform complex product design, systems analysis and programming activities on application and systems network/systems software, which may require some research
  • Perform software design, implementation and maintenance on vehicles, modules, sub-systems, etc.
  • Conduct unit testing and integration testing to validate software capabilities
  • Perform complex bug verification, release testing and beta support for assigned products.
  • Research problems discovered by end users, engineering teams or product support and develop solutions to the problems
  • Support vehicle build activities from a software integration and communication standpoint
  • Keeps current with new and relevant technology through ongoing research to provide insight and critical feedback into existing system upgrades and new system designs
  • Research and understand the marketing requirements for a product, including target environment, performance criteria and competitive issues
  • Understands appropriate software testing standards and how to apply them to Military spec and technologies
  • Build strong collaborative relationships with other software, controls, and development engineering teams within the global umbrella
  • A strong knowledge of available software packages and programming languages along with the ability to provide appropriate interfaces with which to integrate them
  • Lead code, software, and wiring schematic reviews
  • Lead activities around validating on vehicle CAN networks to relevant MIL and ISO Standards
  • Supports the construction of technology user manuals, safety documentation, etc.
  • Promotes all safety policies and procedures
  • Deliver successful software on schedule and provide continued support through vehicle production and release

The Successful Applicant

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Software, Electrical or relevant Engineering field required, an advanced degree preferred
  • Progressive software engineering experience in the Defense Sector and /or Automotive Sectors
  • Knowledge of Relevant MIL and ISO standards relevant to ground vehicle electrical and data systems
  • Current and diverse knowledge of applicable engineering practices and the proven ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously
  • Working knowledge of wiring system schematics (both high voltage and signal voltage)
    • Ability to coach an electrical technician is a plus
  • Strong working knowledge of networks such as CAN, LIN, ethernet etc. with ability to troubleshoot and repair prototype systems
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the following areas with emphasis in electrified vehicle propulsion systems:
    • Experience with low and high voltage system design and safety, state of the art battery options, hybrid electric platforms, system integration, and hybrid electric vehicles
    • Understanding of high voltage system hazards, system protocols, high voltage interlock loops (HVIL), isolation detection, and other relevant safety systems
    • Standard Component & System Knowledge:
  • A/C Motors & Resolvers
  • Inverters
  • DC/DC Converters
  • HV Batteries and their management systems
  • Power distribution systems, contactors, IVT and associated hardware
  • Onboard Chargers
  • Open and Closed loop control systems for electrical sensors, actuators, body controllers, ECUs, etc.
  • Automotive components such as circuit breakers, relays, wiring, etc.
    • Systems integration experience is a plus
    • Experience reverse engineering of systems, subsystems or components is a plus
    • EMI/RFI shielding
    • Industry appropriate design validation techniques
    • Industry appropriate process validation techniques
    • Modern (APQP) Quality Systems requirements
  • Excellent international communication skills
  • Professional communication (written, verbal and presentation) skills
