Job Description

Production Planning & Execution:

  • Lead the creation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of production plans to balance customer demand, inventory, and available manufacturing resources (including plant capacity and workforce).
  • Work with the demand planning team and customer desk to integrate customer orders, forecasts, and promotional activities into a rolling 24-month production plan.
  • Develop and optimize production schedules to ensure efficient use of manufacturing assets, aligned with demand forecasts.
  • Maintain alignment between the production plan and material planning to ensure timely procurement of necessary components and materials.
  • Drive capacity and resource planning to support production schedules and optimize lead times.



Cross-Functional Coordination & Collaboration:

  • Collaborate closely with demand planners, the customer desk, vendor schedulers, and warehousing teams to ensure the production plan is rolled out effectively across all functions.
  • Work with plant teams to align production schedules with available capacity, ensuring that manufacturing plants are equipped to meet the production demands.
  • Coordinate with the logistics team to ensure timely delivery of raw materials and finished goods, keeping production on schedule.
  • Maintain regular communication with sales and marketing teams to adjust plans as necessary based on market changes or customer requirements.



Capacity & Resource Management:

  • Analyze plant capacity and resources (including manpower) to ensure the production plan is achievable. Work with plant leadership to resolve capacity bottlenecks and optimize resource allocation.
  • Support plant teams in adjusting production schedules based on resource availability, ensuring that customer demands are met on time without overloading the plant or workforce.
  • Manage the capacity planning process to ensure that there is always enough manufacturing capacity to meet customer demand, without excessive inventory build-up.



Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement:

  • Drive operational excellence by identifying inefficiencies in the production planning process and implementing process improvements.
  • Proactively manage production constraints (e.g., material shortages, machinery downtime, labor availability) to maintain stable and reliable production schedules.
  • Identify potential disruptions and work with cross-functional teams to find solutions before they impact production schedules or customer deliveries.
  • Lead initiatives for lean manufacturing and Just-in-Time (JIT) inventory strategies to improve cost efficiency and reduce waste.



Monitoring & Reporting:

  • Monitor the production plan's adherence, tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) like on-time production, forecast accuracy, and inventory levels.
  • Provide detailed reports to leadership on production performance, highlighting any areas of concern and proposed solutions.
  • Regularly update stakeholders on production progress and any deviations from the plan, including detailed action plans for recovery.
  • Track and report production-related metrics, including capacity utilization, on-time delivery, stock levels, and adherence to the master production schedule (MPS).



Problem Resolution & Escalation:

  • Act as the point of escalation for production planning issues, including delays, capacity constraints, and supply chain disruptions.
  • Work closely with plant operations and logistics teams to address production issues quickly and minimize impact on customer service levels.
  • Collaborate with the procurement team to ensure the timely availability of critical materials needed to meet production schedules.



Vendor and Supply Chain Coordination:

  • Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to ensure the availability of materials and components necessary to support the production plan.
  • Collaborate with vendor schedulers to synchronize material lead times with production requirements.
  • Ensure that material shortages or delays are identified early and resolve them proactively in collaboration with the supply chain team.



Team Leadership & Development:

  • Lead and develop the supply planning team, providing guidance on best practices, process improvements, and the execution of production schedules.
  • Support the professional development of the planning team and ensure alignment with the organization's objectives.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and accountability within the team and across functions to drive successful execution of the production plan.

The Successful Applicant

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations, Industrial Engineering, Business, or a related field.
  • Master's degree or certifications in supply chain management (e.g., APICS CPIM, CSCP) are a plus.



Experience:

  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience in supply planning, production planning, or operations within a manufacturing or supply chain environment.
  • Experience in production scheduling, resource planning, and capacity management.
  • Proven experience in managing complex production planning processes across multiple plants or regions.



Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of production planning processes, including demand forecasting, material planning, and capacity management.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to manage disruptions in production schedules.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively across functions.
  • Advanced proficiency in supply chain software and tools (e.g., ERP systems, Excel, demand planning tools).
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing and Just-in-Time (JIT) principles.
