About Our Client

A highly successful General Contractor with 50+ years of expertise in the Detroit market is looking for a VP of Operations to oversee the team with their full pipeline of wastewater, mechanical, civil concrete and earthwork projects. Their portfolio consists of exciting and unique projects and they're currently bringing in $150M in revenue yearly. They pride themselves on their commitment to employee development and are seeking an individual with strong communication skills and a desire to mentor their more junior talent and grow the existing team.

Job Description

  • Report into Executive VP of Operations and oversee all other Project Managers and be hands on for specific single project tasks
  • Coaching and consulting for assigned projects with functional responsibility for Associates in the project team.
  • Full performance responsibility for a project or group of projects, including but not limited to financial oversight, construction quality, ensuring owner satisfaction, safety performance, oversight of quality metrics and quality performance, oversight of subcontractor selection, subcontract terms and subcontractor relations, oversight of project documentation and project schedule, and risk management.
  • Review and approve Monthly Project Status Reports prepared by Senior Project Manager and Project Manager. Provide reports to Senior Management on all projects at least monthly
  • Ensure project implementation and compliance with quality policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with the Executive Vice President to insure all guidelines and standards are being met.
  • Approve proposed Bidders Lists and (sub)contract awards with Preconstruction, Senior Project Manager and Project Manager
  • Working with early-career project managers, project and field engineers, superintendents, and other construction management professionals, supporting career development activities to grow internal talent pipeline.
  • Supporting and at times initiating continuous improvement initiatives.

The Successful Applicant

  • 10+ years of Construction Management experience required
  • Bachelor Degree in construction related field
  • Experience overseeing a team with the ability to effectively manage talent
  • Experience in self perform mechanical construction projects; experience with self perform concrete or earthwork a plus
  • Strong negotiating and decision making skills
  • Proficient in estimating, scheduling, budgeting cost, field supervision, financial reporting, and client relationships
  • Ability to interface with a variety of technical and business personnel with courtesy, tact and diplomacy
