Job Description

The VP, Legal Counsel will report directly to the Managing Director and will be responsible for supporting the equity research team on a wide range of commercial and technology related legal matters, including:

  • Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial, vendor and technology related agreements pertaining to the financial services industry
  • Advise the business on data-focused issues relevant to financial services, including: data use permissions and restrictions, IP protection of copyright and trade secrets, cyber security incident response, use of AI and web scraping, etc.
  • Provide training to internal stakeholders on policies, procedures and new regulations related to technology and data
  • Provide sound legal advice to a wide range of internal clients
  • Work closely with other members of the legal team in a fast-paced, high-volume environment

The Successful Applicant

  • JD from a US ABA-accredited law school
  • Admission to NY state Bar
  • 4-6+ years of experience advising financial institution clients on commercial and technology transactions gained at a combination of law firm and in-house experience
  • Experience with data-focused issues relevant to financial services, including: data use permissions and restrictions, IP protection of copyright and trade secrets, cyber security incident response, use of AI and web scraping, as well as significant contract negotiation experience
  • Experience advising clients on data and technology matters inside the regulatory frameworks of a broker-dealer
  • Excellent drafting and negotiating skills
  • CIPP a plus
  • Must have experience partnering directly with clients on a daily basis
  • Team player with excellent communication skills
