Job Description

The Automation Engineer will play a critical role in supporting plant operations through the implementation, optimization, and maintenance of automation and control systems. Working closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, and external vendors, the successful candidate will lead projects that enhance safety, reliability, process efficiency, and production performance while ensuring compliance with regulatory and industry standards.

  • Lead automation and equipment upgrade projects from design and installation through commissioning and startup.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical, instrumentation, PLC, and control system issues to improve plant reliability and uptime.
  • Support process safety initiatives, including Management of Change (MOC), Process Hazard Analyses (PHA/HAZOP), and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR).
  • Develop and maintain electrical documentation, schematics, control drawings, and technical standards for manufacturing systems.
  • Partner with operations teams to identify continuous improvement opportunities that enhance production efficiency, quality, and workplace safety.

The Successful Applicant

The ideal candidate will be a hands-on automation or electrical engineer with experience supporting manufacturing operations in a chemical, process, or industrial production environment. They will possess strong technical troubleshooting skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining a strong focus on safety and operational excellence.

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Five or more years of experience supporting automation, controls, electrical systems, or manufacturing equipment within an industrial environment.
  • Working knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, instrumentation, power distribution, and industrial control systems.
  • Experience leading equipment installations, commissioning activities, and manufacturing improvement projects in a live production setting.
  • Strong understanding of process safety, regulatory compliance, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement methodologies.
