Job Description

  • Review project plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and bid documents.
  • Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs for earthwork, utilities, paving, drainage, and site development scopes.
  • Develop accurate cost estimates for labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing.
  • Identify project risks, opportunities, and value engineering solutions.
  • Maintain and update estimating databases, cost histories, and pricing information.
  • Prepare bid proposals, bid packages, and supporting documentation.
  • Collaborate with project managers and operations teams during bid reviews and project hand-offs.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client meetings as required.
  • Assist in budget development and conceptual estimating for negotiated work.
  • Monitor market trends and material pricing to ensure accurate project forecasting.
  • Support business development efforts by helping secure profitable new projects.

The Successful Applicant

  • 5+ years of estimating experience within civil construction, site development, utility, excavation, or heavy highway projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction means and methods for earthwork, underground utilities, grading, drainage, paving, and sitework operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Experience performing quantity takeoffs and developing detailed project estimates.
  • Proficient with estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of New Jersey construction markets, subcontractors, and suppliers is highly desirable.
