We are seeking a detail-oriented Civil Construction Estimator to prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for a variety of heavy civil, infrastructure, utility, roadway, and site development projects across New Jersey. The Estimator will play a critical role in the preconstruction process by analyzing project requirements, identifying risks and opportunities, and collaborating with operations teams to secure profitable work.

Job Description

  • Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for civil construction projects.
  • Review bid documents, plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and contract requirements.
  • Analyze labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs to develop competitive pricing strategies.
  • Solicit, review, and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations.
  • Develop complete bid proposals and ensure submissions are accurate and compliant with client requirements.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Operations teams, and senior leadership during the bid process.
  • Identify project risks, constructability concerns, and value engineering opportunities.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project walkthroughs as required.
  • Maintain and update estimating databases, production rates, and historical cost information.
  • Assist in project handoffs to operations teams following successful contract awards.
  • Track market trends, material pricing, and labor costs to improve estimate accuracy.
  • Participate in bid review meetings and present project cost analyses to management.
  • Support negotiations related to pricing, scope changes, and contract terms when required.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Civil Estimator should have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline preferred.
  • 3-8+ years of estimating experience within heavy civil construction, site development, utilities, roadways, or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, project sequencing, and cost control principles.
  • Experience preparing estimates ranging from small site development projects to large-scale public infrastructure projects.
  • Proficiency with estimating software such as HCSS HeavyBid, Bid2Win, B2W Estimate, Sage Estimating, or similar platforms.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
  • Knowledge of New Jersey DOT, municipal, county, and utility construction requirements is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and cost analysis tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
