Job Description

  • Lead and manage all onsite construction activities from project mobilization through completion.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, equipment, and labor resources to ensure efficient project execution.
  • Develop and maintain short-term and long-term construction schedules in collaboration with Project Managers.
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with project plans, specifications, permits, and contract requirements.
  • Monitor daily production, productivity, and project progress against schedule milestones.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to maintain quality control and ensure workmanship meets company standards.
  • Enforce all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and project-specific safety requirements.
  • Lead daily toolbox talks, safety meetings, and pre-construction planning activities.
  • Identify and resolve field-related issues, conflicts, and delays in a proactive manner.
  • Coordinate inspections with owners, engineers, municipalities, and regulatory agencies.
  • Manage project documentation including daily reports, field logs, manpower reports, and material tracking.
  • Review and verify quantities completed for progress billing and change orders.
  • Monitor equipment utilization and coordinate logistics to maximize operational efficiency.
  • Foster strong working relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal team members.
  • Support successful project closeout activities, punch list completion, and turnover documentation.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Civil Superintendent should have:

  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience as a Superintendent on civil construction, heavy highway, utility, site development, or infrastructure projects.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering projects ranging from $5M-$100M+.
  • Strong knowledge of excavation, grading, utilities, drainage, paving, concrete, and roadway construction methods.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, schedules, and contract documents.
  • Thorough understanding of OSHA safety regulations and construction best practices.
  • Experience coordinating multiple subcontractors and managing large field crews.
  • Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with construction management software such as Procore, Bluebeam, HCSS, or similar platforms is preferred.
  • OSHA 30 Certification preferred.
  • Experience working on New Jersey DOT, municipal, county, and public infrastructure projects is highly desirable.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites throughout New Jersey.
