Job Description

The Data Center Superintendent will be responsible for:

  • Lead day-to-day field operations for complex, mission-critical data center construction projects.
  • Oversee construction activities from site mobilization through final turnover and commissioning.
  • Coordinate all major trades, including structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, and low-voltage systems.
  • Manage subcontractors, vendors, and field personnel to ensure work is executed safely, efficiently, and according to schedule.
  • Coordinate closely with Project Managers, owners, architects, engineers, and commissioning teams.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules while proactively identifying potential impacts to critical milestones.
  • Ensure construction activities remain aligned with approved plans, specifications, design documents, and client requirements.
  • Coordinate sequencing and installation of critical MEP systems to prevent trade conflicts and maintain project momentum.
  • Monitor manpower, productivity, material deliveries, and equipment needs on a daily basis.
  • Conduct regular site walks to verify progress, quality, safety, and adherence to project requirements.
  • Review drawings, specifications, submittals, and shop drawings to identify discrepancies and constructability concerns.
  • Manage RFIs, field issues, and design conflicts while driving timely resolutions with the project team.
  • Coordinate inspections, testing, equipment startups, and commissioning activities.
  • Maintain strict quality control standards throughout all phases of construction.
  • Work closely with commissioning agents to ensure systems are installed, tested, and operating according to project requirements.
  • Plan and coordinate shutdowns, energization, equipment startups, and other high-risk activities when required.
  • Lead daily huddles, subcontractor meetings, OAC meetings, and coordination meetings.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, progress documentation, photographs, and field records.
  • Identify schedule risks and develop recovery plans to keep critical milestones on track.
  • Enforce project-specific safety requirements and maintain a strong safety culture across the job site.
  • Coordinate with local authorities, inspectors, testing agencies, and other third-party stakeholders.
  • Ensure all work complies with OSHA requirements, project safety plans, and applicable codes.
  • Participate in project planning and logistics meetings to ensure efficient site utilization and material flow.
  • Assist with punch list, final inspections, commissioning, and project turnover.
  • Ensure all closeout documentation, warranties, as-builts, and O&M materials are properly completed.
  • Maintain strong relationships with owners, clients, subcontractors, design teams, and project leadership.
  • Represent the company professionally while maintaining a high level of accountability and attention to detail.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve project execution, productivity, quality, and overall delivery.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Data Center - Superintendent should have:

  • 8+ years of commercial construction experience, with data center, mission-critical, or highly technical project experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated success overseeing large-scale construction projects from site mobilization through commissioning and final turnover.
  • Strong understanding of mission-critical environments where schedule adherence, quality control, and safety are paramount.
  • Extensive knowledge of MEP systems, including electrical distribution, UPS systems, generators, cooling infrastructure, and other critical facility components.
  • Proven ability to coordinate and manage multiple subcontractors, trades, and project stakeholders in fast-paced construction environments.
  • Experience directing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural, and architectural scopes while maintaining project alignment and efficiency.
  • Ability to review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and other technical documentation.
  • Skilled at identifying constructability concerns, design discrepancies, and potential project risks before they impact the schedule.
  • Experience managing RFIs, submittals, inspections, punch lists, and field documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Strong knowledge of construction sequencing, scheduling principles, and critical path activities.
  • Ability to proactively identify challenges and implement solutions to maintain project momentum.
  • Proven leadership capabilities with a track record of driving accountability and performance among field teams and subcontractors.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills when working with owners, architects, engineers, vendors, subcontractors, and internal leadership.
  • Ability to make informed decisions and effectively solve problems in a dynamic job-site environment.
  • Highly organized with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet demanding deadlines.
  • Experience overseeing testing, startup, commissioning, and turnover of complex building systems.
  • Thorough understanding of OSHA regulations and a commitment to fostering a strong safety culture on-site.
  • Proven experience conducting quality-control inspections and ensuring work meets project requirements and industry standards.
  • Ability to monitor manpower, productivity, material procurement, and overall field performance.
  • Strong knowledge of site logistics, material handling, project phasing, and construction planning.
  • Experience collaborating with commissioning agents, testing agencies, inspectors, and local authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs).
  • Ability to maintain accurate daily reports, progress tracking, and project documentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software platforms.
  • Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, Primavera P6, or similar construction technologies is highly desirable.
  • Strong client-facing skills with the ability to build trust, maintain relationships, and represent the company professionally.
