Job Description

  • Lead the estimating department for civil construction projects, overseeing bid preparation and cost estimating activities.
  • Review project plans, specifications, and contract documents to develop accurate and competitive estimates.
  • Manage and mentor estimators, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and adherence to company standards.
  • Analyze labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and vendor pricing to determine project costs.
  • Identify project risks, value engineering opportunities, and cost-saving strategies.
  • Coordinate with operations, engineering, procurement, and business development teams during the bidding process.
  • Develop bid strategies and recommend pricing approaches to maximize profitability and win rates.
  • Negotiate with subcontractors and suppliers to secure competitive pricing and scope coverage.
  • Track market trends, construction costs, and industry conditions that impact estimating.
  • Present estimates, budgets, and bid recommendations to executive leadership and stakeholders.

  • Extensive experience in civil construction estimating, with a proven track record of delivering accurate and competitive bids on heavy civil, infrastructure, site development, roadway, utility, or earthwork projects.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing, mentoring, and developing estimating teams.
  • Expert knowledge of construction methods, project scheduling, procurement, and cost control practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze plans, specifications, and contract documents to identify risks, opportunities, and scope requirements.
  • Proven success in securing profitable projects through effective bid strategy development and pricing decisions.
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen with the ability to balance competitiveness and profitability.
  • Skilled in building and maintaining relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and industry partners.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of collaborating with executive leadership and operational teams.
  • Proficient in estimating software, cost databases, and construction management tools.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple complex pursuits simultaneously under tight deadlines.
  • Strong negotiation and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to risk mitigation and value engineering.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, with relevant industry certifications considered an advantage
