Job Description

  • Lead all day-to-day operations within the machine shop, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality production.
  • Manage and develop supervisors, CNC programmers, machinists, and production personnel.
  • Drive a culture focused on safety, accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
  • Monitor and improve key performance metrics including quality, productivity, equipment utilization, delivery performance, and safety.
  • Balance staffing levels, production schedules, and resources to meet customer requirements and business objectives.
  • Partner with engineering, quality, planning, procurement, and operations teams to resolve manufacturing challenges and improve performance.
  • Support new product introductions and ensure manufacturing readiness for production launches.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects to optimize processes, efficiency, and operational performance.
  • Develop future leaders through coaching, mentoring, and succession planning.
  • Oversee capital equipment planning, justification, and implementation to improve capacity, capability, and long-term operational effectiveness.
  • Ensure the machine shop remains agile and responsive to changing customer demands and production priorities.
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships that support operational goals and customer satisfaction.

The Successful Applicant

  • 10+ years of manufacturing experience, ideally within a machine shop environment.
  • Strong knowledge of CNC milling, CNC turning, lathes, and precision machining processes.
  • Proven experience leading operations within a contract manufacturing setting.
  • Demonstrated success managing supervisors, programmers, machinists, and production teams.
  • Experience leading capital equipment and facility investment projects.
  • Strong understanding of lean manufacturing, process improvement, and operational excellence methodologies.
  • Excellent leadership, coaching, and talent development skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while balancing multiple priorities.
  • Collaborative leadership style with a focus on accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
