Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for construction projects based on plans, specifications, and scope requirements.
  • Review drawings, project documents, and bid packages to identify labor, material, and equipment costs.
  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and cost analyses.
  • Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, and business development teams during the preconstruction phase.
  • Identify potential risks, value engineering opportunities, and cost-saving measures.
  • Maintain accurate estimating records and databases.
  • Participate in bid reviews, proposal preparation, and client presentations as needed.
  • Monitor market trends, material pricing, and labor costs to ensure estimate accuracy.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Building and Construction Estimator should have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of estimating experience within the construction industry.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and project delivery processes.
  • Experience performing quantity takeoffs and preparing project estimates.
  • Proficiency with estimating software such as Bluebeam, PlanSwift, On-Screen Takeoff, Sage Estimating, or similar tools.
  • Excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
