We're looking for an estimator who understands how heavy civil projects are built, not simply how to put together a bid. This position reports to the Chief Estimator and will work closely with Operations, Project Management and company leadership on active pursuits.WHAT YOU'LL DOReview plans, specifications, addenda and contract documentsPerform detailed quantity takeoffs and develop complete estimatesPrice labor, materials, equipment, trucking and subcontractor workSolicit, analyze and negotiate subcontractor and supplier pricingEvaluate project scope, risks, constructability and means/methodsDevelop competitive bids, bid schedules and proposal documentsAttend pre-bid meetings and project/site visitsCoordinate with Operations and Project Management on pricing and constructabilityIdentify cost-saving opportunities and value engineering optionsMeet bid deadlines and maintain accurate estimating documentationWHAT YOU BRING5+ years of heavy civil construction estimating experienceStrong ability to read and interpret civil drawings, plans and specificationsExperience with quantity takeoffs and detailed cost estimatingWorking knowledge of heavy civil construction means and methodsExperience pricing self-perform work, subcontractors, materials and equipmentStrong understanding of construction costs and productivityAbility to manage multiple bids and deadlinesStrong communication, analytical and organizational skillsProficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft OfficeAbility and willingness to travel to project sites and attend required site visits and pre-bid meetings.PREFERRED EXPERIENCEHighway, roadway, bridge, utility, sitework, paving, marine, rail/transit or environmental constructionPublic works and DOT projectsNJ, NY or PA construction marketsHCSS HeavyBid, AGTEK, Bluebeam, B2W, Procore or similarPrevailing wage and public bidding requirementsValue engineering and alternative construction methodsDegree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or a related field is a plus, but equivalent heavy civil experience will be considered.MPI does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, marital status, or based on an individual's status in any group or class protected by applicable federal, state or local law.
