Job Description

The General Superintendent will be responsible for:

  • Providing oversight and support across a portfolio of commercial construction projects throughout the Washington, DC metro area.
  • Leading and mentoring Superintendents and field teams by providing guidance on planning, scheduling, logistics, and execution strategies.
  • Identifying project risks, staffing needs, and operational challenges while implementing proactive solutions.
  • Serving as a trusted resource for project teams, helping resolve subcontractor, scheduling, quality, and site execution issues.
  • Supporting multiple active projects at once, ensuring consistency in safety, performance, and project delivery.
  • Collaborating with field operations leadership to improving jobsite execution and operational efficiency.
  • Maintaining strong relationships with subcontractors, owners, consultants, and internal stakeholders.
  • Assisting teams with means and methods planning while promoting accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Providing leadership across hospitality, restaurant, commercial interiors, historic restoration, rehabilitation, and revitalisation projects.
  • Traveling between project sites throughout Washington, DC and the surrounding Beltway region as needed.

The Successful Applicant

A successful General Superintendent should have:

  • Proven experience as a Senior Superintendent, General Superintendent, or equivalent field leadership role.
  • Demonstrated success overseeing multiple projects simultaneously, ideally managing four to five active projects at one time.
  • Strong background in commercial construction, including hospitality, food & beverage, restaurant, retail, and interior fit-out projects.
  • Experience with historic preservation, restoration, rehabilitation, façade restoration, or revitalisation projects is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of masonry, waterproofing, structural stabilization, roofing systems, architectural metals, windows, doors, and related restoration scopes is preferred.
  • Ability to coach, mentor, and develop field personnel while fostering a positive team environment.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Established subcontractor relationships and understanding of local construction markets.
  • Ability to identify project challenges, assess priorities, and implement effective solutions.
  • High emotional intelligence with a collaborative, servant-leadership approach.
