With all projects local to the Greater KC Area, they are looking for a talented Lead Estimator with relationships in KC to join their growing team!

Job Description

  • Lead the preparation and delivery of detailed preliminary and final cost plans, working closely with clients, design professionals, project leadership, and trade partners to ensure accuracy throughout all phases of a project.
  • Analyze drawings, specifications, and bid materials to gain a full understanding of project requirements, allowing for clear scope definition and reliable cost projections.
  • Collaborate with subcontractors to obtain quantity measurements and pricing, confirming alignment on scheduling, workforce needs, and sequencing prior to bid submission.
  • Build and manage a database of qualified trade partners for ongoing company use and outreach.
  • Evaluate contract documents and technical requirements to assess feasibility, construction approach, and material selections.
  • Guide and support estimating staff, reviewing calculations and assumptions to ensure precision and consistency across all estimates.
  • Partner with project teams to assemble general conditions budgets for executive review and approval.
  • Develop and maintain detailed inclusions, exclusions, and scope descriptions from early budgeting through final pricing to clearly communicate deliverables to clients and design teams.
  • Establish and nurture strong working relationships with stakeholders including owners, consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams.
  • Provide coaching and professional development opportunities for junior team members.
  • Drive cost optimization efforts by identifying alternatives and recommending value-enhancing solutions when budgets shift.
  • Proactively identify potential risks during preconstruction and collaborate with stakeholders to implement mitigation strategies early in the design process.
  • Perform or validate quantity takeoffs using digital estimating tools, ensuring data is well-organized and accurately documented.

The Successful Applicant

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field.
  • 4-7+ years of progressive experience in preconstruction and estimating
  • Experience working on education, higher education, commercial, healthcare, or municipal construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction means and methods, market conditions, and subcontractor trades.
  • Proficiency in software and project management tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Highly organized with strong analytical and decision-making abilities.
