The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for improving equipment reliability, manufacturing efficiency, production performance, and product quality within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This is a highly hands-on position requiring significant time on the production floor working directly with operators, maintenance, quality, and leadership teams to solve problems, reduce downtime, and implement lasting improvements.

Job Description

  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and support troubleshooting efforts.
  • Diagnose mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and process issues.
  • Work directly with operators and maintenance teams to restore production.
  • Identify root causes of recurring equipment failures.
  • Implement corrective actions to improve equipment reliability.
  • Develop and improve preventive maintenance programs.
  • Support equipment installations, upgrades, and startup activities.
  • Coordinate with equipment vendors and external service providers.
  • Improve machine uptime, throughput, and production efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot coating, laminating, sheeting, and web-handling processes.
  • Analyze production and downtime data to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Support new product introductions and production trials.
  • Develop operating procedures, work instructions, and training materials.
  • Identify automation and capital improvement opportunities.
  • Investigate and resolve product quality issues.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action activities.
  • Establish and improve process controls and quality standards.
  • Support customer complaint investigations and resolution activities.
  • Collaborate with production and quality teams to improve consistency and performance.
  • Drive issues from identification through permanent resolution.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Manufacturing Engineer should have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline preferred.
  • 3-7+ years of manufacturing, process, mechanical, or equipment engineering experience.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills within industrial manufacturing environments.
  • Experience working hands-on with machinery and equipment repairs.
  • Knowledge of bearings, rollers, drives, gearboxes, motors, pumps, pneumatics, and hydraulics.
  • Experience troubleshooting electrical controls, PLCs, VFDs, sensors, and automation systems preferred.
  • Strong understanding of quality systems, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Experience with continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Paper converting, packaging, printing, laminating, coating, or web-handling experience is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-starter with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, production-focused environment.
