The Chemical Process Engineer is responsible for improving chemical manufacturing processes, supporting production operations, and leading capital projects that enhance efficiency, safety, and cost performance. This role partners with Operations, Maintenance, and EH&S teams to optimize chemical processes, reduce precious metal inventory, improve productivity, and ensure regulatory compliance.

Job Description

  • Manage and resolve daily production and process-related issues.
  • Support material flow, production scheduling, and manufacturing operations.
  • Lead projects involving chemical processing, solution handling, and wastewater treatment systems.
  • Manage capital projects including equipment upgrades, process improvements, and facility renovations.
  • Develop equipment specifications and support equipment selection and replacement activities.
  • Specify and implement process controls and automation solutions.
  • Develop control schemes and support programming for automated chemical processes.
  • Partner with EH&S to establish and maintain safe operating procedures.
  • Coordinate activities with maintenance personnel, electricians, and external contractors.
  • Evaluate processes and equipment to ensure environmental and regulatory compliance.
  • Perform process analysis, mass balance calculations, and consumption studies.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, efficiency, and cost reduction.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Process Engineer should have:

  • BS or MS in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in chemical manufacturing or process engineering environments preferred.
  • Experience managing engineering and capital improvement projects.
  • Working knowledge of inorganic chemistry, chemical processing, and unit operations.
  • Ability to perform chemical and metallurgical calculations, including mass balances.
  • Experience developing process flow diagrams and equipment specifications.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar CAD software.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with process controls and automation systems preferred.
  • Precious metals processing experience preferred.
  • Experience with electrolytic cells, wastewater treatment, or industrial chemical operations is a plus.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and training abilities.
  • Proven problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively across departments.
