About Our Client

Our client has been a trusted leader in machining and repair services since 1976, supporting customers across industries including steel, agriculture, oil and gas, aerospace, and more. Leveraging extensive CNC machining and metal fabrication capabilities for large-scale parts and components, they deliver custom-engineered solutions tailored to a wide range of applications. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced engineering professional to lead all project estimation activities at their Chicago-area manufacturing facility.

Job Description

  • Review customer drawings/RFQs, determine required processes (CNC, machining, welding, finishing)
  • Estimate machine hours, labor, and material costs.
  • Cost Analysis: Calculate overhead, profit margins, and total landed costs to provide competitive pricing.
  • Process Optimization: Identify cost-effective methods, suggest design improvements for manufacturability (DFM), and reduce waste.
  • Collaboration: Work with sales (pricing), production (scheduling/feasibility), and management (operational excellence).
  • Documentation: Create Bill of Estimates (BOE), track costs, and maintain cost models.
  • Work within various Costing Software/ERP proficiency

The Successful Applicant

  • Experience in costing and estimating for complex, large product-based engineering projects
  • Proven experience in a machine shop environment, working with large, machined parts
  • Strong knowledge of all things CNC Machining (programming not required)
  • Ability to utilize Solidworks and AutoCAD
  • Technical Degree strongly preferred
  • Ability to read technical drawings and blueprints
  • Willingness to work with sales and customers through technically challenging projects
